State Bird

New Jersey's State Bird is the American Goldfinch. Since 1913, it has been our state's bird. Fun fact: most people have never seen it!

The looks of a male Goldfinch differ from the females. An adult male American Goldfinch are bright yellow, they also have a black forehead, black wings wit white markings, and white patches above and beneath the Goldfinches tail. While an adult female merican Goldfinch are a duller yelow shade underneath their bodies and olive colored above. Both birds in winter are unstreked brown, with blackish wings and two pale wingbars.

Ever wonder why a Goldfinch is named that way? The Goldfinch birds name is taken from an old English c'irm describing the song of the birs twitters.
